So first you have to do the hunting quest by your mentor. Once you do that you can click on the prey which is by Thornwhisker.
It's that basket thing with the multicolored lumps near Thornwhisker

You need to catch at least one prey when you're an apprentice and then you can eat NO PREY = NO FOOD
